The original was released in 1969 on Dunhill and is regarded as one of the first soundtrack albums built from existing rock songs rather than a specially composed score. It includes Steppenwolf's \"Born To Be Wild\" and \"The Pusher\", Jimi Hendrix's \"If Six Was Nine\" and songs by The Byrds and Roger McGuinn. \"The Weight\" appears here in a version by the band Smith, as The Band's film version was not cleared for the album.
