Originally released in 1982 as a limited solo cassette on the Cherry Red label, A Distant Shore is Tracey Thorn’s debut solo record — a quietly stunning collection of sparse, intimate folk-pop recordings made when she was just 18 years old. Featuring only Thorn’s voice and acoustic guitar, the album is a remarkably assured statement of intent from an artist who would go on to co-found Everything But The Girl with Ben Watt. Tracks like "Plain Sailing" and her cover of "Femme Fatale" reveal a voice of rare emotional depth and restraint. This German reissue on Animalized from 1985 brought the album to a wider European audience.
