I Called For A Rope And They Threw Me A Rock is a 1989 compilation by Swamp Dogg, the eccentric and brilliantly subversive soul and funk artist born Jerry Williams Jr. Known for his sharp social commentary, outrageous humour, and deeply soulful delivery, Swamp Dogg remains one of the most singular and underappreciated figures in American soul music. This UK original pressing on Sonet is an excellent introduction to his cult catalog, spanning some of his most compelling and idiosyncratic recordings.
