Description

Clifford Brown – Memorial Album combines two 1953 Blue Note sessions by trumpeter Clifford Brown that had previously appeared on the 10-inch LPs BLP 5030 and BLP 5032. Side A comes from August 28, 1953 (Audio-Video Studios, New York) with Gigi Gryce, Charlie Rouse, John Lewis, Percy Heath and Art Blakey; side B from June 9, 1953 (WOR Studios, New York) with Lou Donaldson, Elmo Hope, Percy Heath and Philly Joe Jones. Alfred Lion produced and Rudy Van Gelder engineered. The 12-inch LP BLP 1526 was released in 1956, a few months after Brown's death in a car accident in June 1956. This copy is the 1978 Japanese mono edition GXK 8054 from the Blue Note Masterpiece Selection 150 series, manufactured by King Records.
