Description

The Roland Hanna Trio – Child Of Gemini is a trio album by pianist Sir Roland Hanna, released in 1971 on the German label MPS (cat. no. 21 20875-3) and produced by Joachim-Ernst Berendt. Hanna plays with British bassist Dave Holland and Swiss drummer Daniel Humair; all pieces are his own. Side A opens with a suite-like sequence of "Prelude", "Allemande" and "Courrante" in which Hanna combines baroque dance forms with jazz. This copy is a 1971 German MPS stereo pressing in a gatefold sleeve.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. Child Of Gemini was first released in Germany on MPS in 1971; this is a German pressing from that year. Later editions appeared in the US and Japan (1972) and Spain (1975), among others.

What is MPS?
MPS (Musik Produktion Schwarzwald) was the jazz label of Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer in Villingen in the Black Forest. In the 1970s it was distributed in Germany by BASF, which is why many pressings carry both label names.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG (Very Good) means the sleeve shows clear wear, here shelf wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more records on MPS?
This is currently our only Roland Hanna record. Other MPS titles include Rolf Kühn – Cucu Ear and Volker Kriegel – Inside: Missing Link. More is in our Jazz collection.
