Description

Coleman Hawkins – Desafinado: Coleman Hawkins Plays Bossa Nova & Jazz Samba is an album by tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins on Impulse! (cat. no. AS-28). It was recorded on September 12 and 17, 1962 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, produced by Bob Thiele, and first released in the US the same year. Hawkins took up the 1962 bossa nova wave and plays pieces by Antonio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto and Manny Albam, who also wrote the arrangements, plus two standards in samba rhythm. FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
The first edition was released in the US in 1962. This copy is a German pressing with the same catalogue number AS-28 in a gatefold sleeve, with original inner sleeve.

Does Tommy Flanagan play piano here?
No. Pianist Tommy Flanagan is heard only on claves on this album; the harmonies come from the two guitarists Howard Collins and Barry Galbraith.

What does Media NM- to VG+ / Cover VG mean?
The record sits between NM- (close to new, at most minimal signs of use) and VG+ (light signs of use that hardly affect playback). VG (Very Good) for the sleeve means clear signs of wear such as edge wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Coleman Hawkins records?
Yes, for example Coleman Hawkins, Bud Powell, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Clarke – The Essen Jazz Festival All Stars and another copy of Coleman Hawkins – Desafinado. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
