Description

Herbie Hancock – Perfect Machine is an album by pianist and keyboardist Herbie Hancock, released in 1988 on CBS/Columbia. After “Future Shock” and “Sound-System” it is his third studio LP made together with producer Bill Laswell. Recording took place at Quad Recording Studios in New York and Garage Sale Recording in Los Angeles, among others. Hancock works with a whole arsenal of synthesizers and samplers, joined by Bootsy Collins on bass, Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players on vocals, Mico Wave and turntablist Grand Mixer DXT. The result is electro-funk; “Maiden Voyage / P. Bop” revisits Hancock’s classic of the same name. This copy is the 1988 European original pressing (CBS 460679 1).

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. This is the European first issue on CBS, catalogue number 460679 1, from 1988, pressed in the Netherlands.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means the sleeve shows light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Is “Perfect Machine” a jazz album?
Only in part. The album is mostly electro-funk with synthesizers, drum machines and scratching. With “Maiden Voyage / P. Bop”, however, Hancock nods to one of his best-known jazz compositions.

Do you have more Herbie Hancock records?
Yes, for example Herbie Hancock – Sound-System, Man-Child and Takin’ Off. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
