Description

Thelonious Monk – Live At The It Club is a concert recording by the Thelonious Monk Quartet, taped on October 31 and November 1, 1964 at the "It" Club in Los Angeles and produced by Teo Macero for Columbia. The tapes sat in the vault for almost two decades and were first released in 1982 as a double LP. It features Monk's working quartet of those years, with Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone, Larry Gales on bass and Ben Riley on drums, in long versions of classics such as "Blue Monk", "'Round Midnight" and "Straight, No Chaser". FAQ

Is this a reissue?
Not in the usual sense. The concerts were recorded in 1964 but first came out on record in 1982. This copy is the European CBS edition from that year of release.

Where was the concert recorded?
At the "It" Club in Los Angeles, over two nights in late October and early November 1964. Columbia taped the sets while Monk was touring the West Coast with his quartet.

What does Media close to NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) stands for a record close to new; "close to NM-" means it almost reaches that grade. VG+ (Very Good Plus) on the sleeve means light wear, here also a small spot on the back where a sticker was removed. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Thelonious Monk records?
Yes, for example Thelonious Monk – Monk's Music, The Thelonious Monk Quartet – Monk's Dream and Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
