Description

Jolly Brothers / George Faith – Conscious Man / Don't Be Afraid is a split 12" on the UK label Cyprian Records (cat. no. CYP 02), released in 1981 and marketed by Seven Leaves Records. Both tracks were produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry: the Jolly Brothers' “Conscious Man” first came out in 1977, while “Don't Be Afraid” comes from George Faith's sessions with Perry and was issued as a single in 1978. The 12" presents both roots tracks in extended versions. This copy is a 1981 UK original pressing in a plain black sleeve.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
This 12" is the 1981 UK original edition on Cyprian Records. The songs themselves had appeared separately before: “Conscious Man” in 1977 and “Don't Be Afraid” in 1978.

Who produced these tracks?
Both were produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry. George Faith recorded with Perry in the mid-1970s, and Perry also gave him his stage name.

What does Media NM- / generic sleeve mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. The record comes in a plain black generic sleeve without a picture cover, as was common for 12" singles of the time. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more records from Lee Perry's circle?
Yes, for example Black Ark Players – Black Ark In Dub. More titles are in our Reggae, Ska & Dub collection.
