Released in 1981, "Happy Birthday" is Altered Images' debut single and an instant classic of the British post-punk and new wave scene. Clare Grogan's distinctive, childlike vocals over a backdrop of angular guitars and driving rhythms created a sound entirely their own - quirky, infectious, and utterly memorable. The track reached the UK Top 20 and announced the arrival of one of the most original acts of the early 1980s.
