Description

Junior Byles – Beat Down Babylon is the debut album by Jamaican singer Junior Byles, produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry and released in the UK in 1972 on Trojan Records (cat. no. TRL 52). The title track had appeared earlier as a single; the record also includes “A Place Called Africa” and “Joshua's Desire”. Lee Perry is credited as writer on almost every track, with Byles co-writing “Da Da”. The sleeve describes it as a Dynamic Sounds production licensed via Trans World Records of Montreal. This copy is the 1972 UK original pressing.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes, this is the 1972 UK edition on Trojan with catalogue number TRL 52. A Jamaican edition came out the same year, and a reissue followed in 2016.

Is “Curly Locks” on the album?
No. “Curly Locks” is a later Junior Byles single with Lee Perry and is not on this LP. The ten tracks it holds are listed above.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means the sleeve shows light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Junior Byles records?
This is currently our only Junior Byles LP. More 1970s reggae titles are in our Reggae, Ska & Dub collection.
