Description

John Abercrombie, Jan Hammer, Jack DeJohnette – Timeless is guitarist John Abercrombie's debut album as a leader, released in 1975 on ECM Records (cat. no. ECM 1047 ST). It was recorded on June 21 and 22, 1974 at Generation Sound Studios in New York and produced by Manfred Eicher. In this bassless trio Jan Hammer covers the bass lines on organ, synthesizer and piano, with Jack DeJohnette on drums. FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
This is a German ECM pressing with cat. no. ECM 1047 ST, offered as the 1975 original. ECM also repressed the album later under the same number; the represses differ in the back cover layout, among other things.

Why is there no bassist on "Timeless"?
Jan Hammer covers the bass lines on organ and synthesizer, so the trio sounds like a classic organ trio, only with a lot more rock energy.

What do Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means nearly new, with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means light signs of wear that barely affect the overall impression. The record is just below that. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Are there more records by John Abercrombie?
Yes, for example John Abercrombie – Night or Jan Garbarek, Nana Vasconcelos, John Abercrombie – Eventyr. You will find more titles in our Jazz-Rock category.
