Originally released in Israel in 1984 and picked up by Globe Style for international distribution in 1985, Yemenite Songs is the album that introduced Ofra Haza to the world. Drawing on the ancient Yemenite Jewish poetry of Rabbi Shalom Shabazi, Haza transforms these centuries-old texts into hypnotic, deeply moving performances — her voice effortlessly bridging tradition and contemporary production. The album became a landmark in world music and later inspired her global crossover hit "Im Nin’Alu". An essential record for any serious world music collection.
