Released in 1983, Born To Laugh At Tornadoes is the wildly eclectic second album from Detroit's Was (Not Was), a band that defied easy categorisation by blending funk, new wave, synth-pop and absurdist humour into a gloriously unpredictable whole. Featuring an extraordinary cast of guest vocalists — including Ozzy Osbourne, Mel Tormé, and Marshall Crenshaw — the album swings from dancefloor grooves to surreal pop with effortless cool. Standout tracks include the infectious "Shake Your Head (Let's Go to Bed)" and the funky "(Return to the Valley of) Out Come the Freaks."
