Description

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five – Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five is a compilation of recordings from the New York label Sugar Hill Records, licensed for release in Germany in 1983 (cat. no. 28 550-2). It contains 12" versions such as “The Message” (1982), “Freedom”, “It's Nasty (Genius Of Love)” and the turntable mix “The Wheels Of Steel”, originally “The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel”, in which Grandmaster Flash cuts together records such as Chic’s “Good Times” and Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” live on the decks. “White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)” was made in 1983 without Grandmaster Flash and was originally credited to Grandmaster & Melle Mel. This copy is the 1983 German original pressing.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes, as far as this compilation goes: it is the first German edition from 1983. Most of the tracks had previously been released as singles on Sugar Hill Records in the US between 1980 and 1983.

What is “The Wheels Of Steel”?
A mix that Grandmaster Flash put together on the turntables in 1981 from pieces of other records, including Chic, Queen and Blondie. It is regarded as one of the first recordings to capture DJ techniques such as scratching on record.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
VG+ (Very Good Plus) means light signs of use, such as fine scuffs or light marks that barely affect playback. The same applies to the sleeve: light wear but well preserved. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five records?
Yes, for example Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five – The Message (DE original 1982) and Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five (DE original 1984). More titles are in our Hip Hop & Rap collection.
