Description

McCoy Tyner – Atlantis is a live double album by pianist McCoy Tyner, recorded on August 31 and September 1, 1974 at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco and produced by Orrin Keepnews for Milestone; the original edition came out in June 1975. Tyner plays with his quintet of the time: Azar Lawrence on tenor and soprano saxophone, Joony Booth on bass, Wilby Fletcher on drums and Guilherme Franco on percussion. Besides long originals such as the almost 18-minute title track and "Love Samba", there are two ballads, "In A Sentimental Mood" as a solo piano piece and "My One And Only Love". This copy is the 1975 German Bellaphon edition in a gatefold sleeve.

FAQ

Where was Atlantis recorded?
Live at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco over two nights in late August and early September 1974. It has nothing to do with the Montreux festival, where Tyner's earlier live album "Enlightenment" was made.

Is this the original pressing?
It is the German first edition from the year of release, 1975. Bellaphon issued the Milestone recordings in Germany under licence at the time; the US original carries the number M-55002.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
VG+ (Very Good Plus) on the record means light signs of play or fine marks that are barely audible. VG+ (Very Good Plus) on the sleeve means light wear, here some scuffing. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more McCoy Tyner records?
Yes, for example McCoy Tyner – Enlightenment, McCoy Tyner – Sama Layuca and McCoy Tyner – Passion Dance. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
