Description

Steps Ahead – Magnetic is the 1986 Elektra album by the New York fusion band Steps Ahead, led by vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, who also produced it. Besides tenor saxophone, Michael Brecker plays the EWI electronic wind instrument, joined by synthesizers, guitar synthesizer and programmed rhythms. Dianne Reeves sings on "Magnetic Love", and there is a version of Duke Ellington's "In A Sentimental Mood". This copy is the European pressing on Elektra (cat. no. 960 441-1).

FAQ

Which Steps Ahead album is this?
Magnetic from 1986, not the self-titled album from 1983. The catalogue number of this European pressing is Elektra 960 441-1.

What is an EWI?
EWI stands for Electronic Wind Instrument, a wind controller played like a saxophone that drives a synthesizer. Michael Brecker made it widely known with albums like this one.

What does Media NM- to VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
The record sits between NM- (close to new) and VG+ (light signs of use that hardly affect playback). The sleeve is VG+ with some light abrasion on the spine. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Steps Ahead records?
Yes, for example Steps Ahead – Modern Times, Steps – Paradox: Live At Seventh Avenue South. More titles are in our Fusion collection.
