Description

Donald Fagen – The Nightfly is the first solo album by Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen, released on October 1, 1982 by Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded over about eight months in 1981–82 in New York (Soundworks, Automated Sound) and Los Angeles (Village Recorders), produced by Gary Katz with Roger Nichols as chief engineer. It is one of the earliest fully digital pop recordings (3M digital recorders), and songs like "I.G.Y." and "New Frontier" look back at late-1950s and early-1960s America. This copy is a 1982 German original pressing with the original inner sleeve and two hype stickers on the cover.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. This is the 1982 German first edition on Warner Bros. (92.3696-1) with the original inner sleeve.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
Media refers to the record, Cover to the sleeve. NM- (Near Mint minus) means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means light signs of use that barely affect playback or overall appearance. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Why is The Nightfly known for its sound?
The album was recorded fully digitally on 3M multitrack machines and mastered by Bob Ludwig. Early CD editions, by contrast, were made from third- and fourth-generation tape copies and sounded weaker as a result.

Do you have more records by Donald Fagen or Steely Dan?
Yes, we have another copy of The Nightfly and Steely Dan – Gaucho. More titles are in our Jazz-Rock collection.
