Description

Milt Buckner – Birthday Party For H.G.B.S. is a trio album by pianist and organist Milt Buckner, released in 1971 on MPS Records (cat. no. CRM 745). It was recorded on July 20, 1970, the birthday of MPS founder Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer – hence the initials in the title. Buckner plays piano here, backed by Hans Rettenbacher on bass and Kenny Clare on drums; alongside standards such as Fine And Dandy and This Can't Be Love are originals like Birthday Boogie and Locked Hands For Hans, a nod to Buckner's typical block-chord style. This copy is the 1971 German original pressing in a gatefold sleeve.

Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer, the founder of MPS Records. The session took place on his birthday, July 20, 1970, and fittingly opens with Happy Birthday To You.

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. This is the 1971 German first edition on MPS, cat. no. CRM 745, in a gatefold sleeve. Later reissues appeared in Germany in 1976 and in Switzerland in 1986, among others.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the record means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Milt Buckner records?
We currently have no other Milt Buckner record in stock. More titles from this era are in our Jazz collection, for example The Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band – 20th And 30th Anniversary on MPS.
