Description

Bud Powell – The Amazing Bud Powell, Volume 2 collects trio recordings by bebop pianist Bud Powell from three Blue Note sessions produced by Alfred Lion. At its core is the August 14, 1953 session with George Duvivier on bass and Art Taylor on drums, previously issued on the 10-inch record BLP 5041; it is completed by two solo piano pieces from May 1, 1951 and two trio tracks from August 9, 1949 with Tommy Potter and Roy Haynes. All sessions took place at WOR Studios in New York. The album also includes Powell's own compositions "Glass Enclosure" and "Audrey". The 12-inch edition carries catalogue number BLP 1504. This copy is a remastered US stereo edition (BST-81504) from 1975, when Blue Note was part of United Artists.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
No. The tracks first appeared in mono in the 1950s, among others on the 10-inch LP BLP 5041 and then on the 12-inch LP BLP 1504. This record is a remastered US stereo edition from 1975.

How does it differ from Volume 1?
Volume 1 (BLP 1503) mainly features the 1949 session with Fats Navarro and Sonny Rollins plus trio recordings from 1951. Volume 2 focuses on the 1953 trio session with George Duvivier and Art Taylor.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG (Very Good) means the sleeve shows clear wear but is complete. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more records by Bud Powell?
Yes, for example Bud Powell – Jazz Giant, Bud Powell – Hot House or The Essen Jazz Festival All Stars. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
