Description

Cassandra Wilson – Point Of View is singer Cassandra Wilson's first album under her own name, released in 1986 on the German label JMT (cat. no. 860004). It was recorded and mixed in December 1985 at Systems Two in Brooklyn and produced by Stefan F. Winter and Steve Coleman. The record comes out of the New York M-Base collective: Coleman on alto saxophone, Jean-Paul Bourelly on guitar and Lonnie Plaxico on bass frame Wilson's dark contralto with angular, funky arrangements that move well away from classic jazz singing. Alongside her own songs, Wilson sings a version of "Blue In Green" with her own lyrics. This copy is the 1986 German original pressing.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. JMT was a Munich-based label and the album first came out in Germany in 1986 with catalogue number 860004. This copy is that first edition.

What is M-Base?
M-Base was a loose group of young New York musicians around Steve Coleman in the mid-1980s who combined jazz improvisation with intricate funk rhythms. Cassandra Wilson was part of it from the start, and several members of the circle play on this album.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) on the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Cassandra Wilson records?
Yes, for example Cassandra Wilson – New Moon Daughter. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
