Description

Herbie Hancock – Round Midnight (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the soundtrack to Bertrand Tavernier's jazz film "Round Midnight", starring Dexter Gordon. Herbie Hancock produced the music and plays piano on almost every track; it was recorded in July and August 1985 at Studio Eclair in Épinay-sur-Seine and at the Paris studios Davout and Philippe Sarde, partly live on the film set. The players include Dexter Gordon, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Chet Baker, John McLaughlin, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and Bobby McFerrin. The score won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. This copy is the 1986 European CBS edition (cat. no. CBS 70300).

No. CBS 70300 is the European edition from the year of release, 1986, issued alongside the US edition on Columbia.

Did the soundtrack win an Oscar?
Yes. Herbie Hancock received the Academy Award for Best Original Score for "Round Midnight", a much-debated decision since the film uses many jazz standards.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means the sleeve shows light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Herbie Hancock records?
Yes, for example Herbie Hancock – Takin' Off, The Prisoner and Man-Child. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
