Description

Herbie Hancock – The Prisoner is Herbie Hancock's last album for Blue Note (original cat. no. BST 84321), recorded on April 18, 21 and 23, 1969 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs and produced by Duke Pearson. Hancock dedicated it to Martin Luther King Jr., assassinated the year before; pieces such as "I Have A Dream" and "He Who Lives In Fear" are meant as a musical statement on the civil rights movement. For the sessions he expanded his sextet with Joe Henderson and Johnny Coles by adding flutes, bass clarinet and bass trombone. This copy is a 1979 Japanese reissue with insert.
