Description

Miles Davis – Live At The Plugged Nickel is a double album of concert recordings made at the Plugged Nickel club in Chicago on December 22 and 23, 1965. It features the second great quintet with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams, taking familiar tunes such as "So What", "Stella By Starlight" and "On Green Dolphin Street" apart with great freedom. Teo Macero was the producer. The recordings had previously appeared only in Japan on two single LPs; this Columbia edition in the Contemporary Masters Series (cat. no. C2 38266) was their first US release in 1982. This copy is that 1982 US original in a gatefold sleeve.

FAQ

Is this the first release of these recordings?
Not quite. The recordings first came out in Japan on two separate LPs. This 1982 Columbia double LP was their first release in the US.

Why are the Plugged Nickel recordings considered special?
The quintet played its familiar repertoire in a very open, risk-taking way, with constantly shifting tempos and structures. The concerts catch the band shortly before it recorded almost entirely new material on Miles Smiles and Nefertiti.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the records are close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG (Very Good) for the sleeve means clear signs of wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Miles Davis records?
Yes, for example In A Silent Way, Miles In The Sky and Bitches Brew. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
