It was recorded in January and February 1969 at American Sound Studio in Memphis with the house band led by Reggie Young and Bobby Wood, produced by Chips Moman (with Felton Jarvis). The original came out on 2 June 1969; it blends soul, country and rock and includes "In The Ghetto", a US top-3 hit. In the UK the album reached No. 1.
