Description

Elvis Costello And The Attractions – Punch The Clock is Elvis Costello's eighth studio album, released on 5 August 1983 on F-Beat (XXLP 19). It was recorded from January to April 1983 at AIR Studios in London and produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley. The TKO Horns and backing singers Afrodiziak give it a soulful pop sound; "Everyday I Write The Book" became Costello's first US Top 40 hit, and Chet Baker plays a trumpet solo on "Shipbuilding". The LP reached No. 3 in the UK. This copy is the 1983 UK original pressing.

Yes. This is the 1983 UK first edition on F-Beat, catalogue number XXLP 19. We also stock a 2015 180 g reissue.

What is the story behind "Shipbuilding"?
The music was written by producer Clive Langer, and Costello wrote the lyrics against the backdrop of the Falklands War. Robert Wyatt released the first version in 1982; on this album jazz trumpeter Chet Baker plays the solo.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
Media VG+: the record shows light signs of use that barely affect playback. Cover VG+: the sleeve shows light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Yes, for example Punch The Clock (Reissue 2015), Imperial Bedroom and Blood & Chocolate. More titles are in our New Wave collection.
