Produced by Quincy Jones with Jackson as co-producer, it was recorded in 1982 at Westlake Studios in Los Angeles and released on Epic on 30 November 1982. Seven of its nine songs were released as singles and reached the US top 10, including "Billie Jean" and "Beat It"; in 1984 the album won eight Grammys.
