Description

Dexter Gordon Quartet – Billie's Bounce is a live recording from August 20, 1964 at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, taped by Danish Radio and first released in 1983 on SteepleChase (cat. no. SCC-6028) as volume 7 of the "Dexter In Radioland" series. It was produced and remixed by Nils Winther. Gordon, then living in Copenhagen, plays extended versions of Charlie Parker's "Billie's Bounce" and Duke Ellington's "Satin Doll" with Tete Montoliu, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Alex Riel, plus "A Night In Tunisia" and his own "Soul Sister". This copy is the 1983 Danish original pressing.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. The 1964 recordings were previously unissued and first appeared on this 1983 Danish SteepleChase LP.

What is "Dexter In Radioland"?
Under this series title SteepleChase released radio recordings of Dexter Gordon playing at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen in the 1960s. "Billie's Bounce" is volume 7. Note that the label and back cover misspell "Night In Tunisia" as "Night In Tunesia".

What do Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means nearly new, with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means light signs of wear that barely affect the overall impression. One corner of the cover is slightly bent. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Are there more records by Dexter Gordon?
Yes, for example Dexter Gordon – The Montmartre Collection Vol. 1 or Dexter Gordon Quartet – Manhattan Symphonie. You will find more titles in our Jazz category.
