Description

Miles Davis – Milestones is an album by the Miles Davis Sextet on Columbia, released on September 2, 1958. It was recorded on February 4 and March 4, 1958 at Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York, produced by George Avakian. The quintet with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones is joined by alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley. With the title track, built on a few scales rather than fast chord changes, Davis anticipates the modal approach of Kind Of Blue. This copy is a US reissue on Columbia (cat. no. PC 9428).

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
No. The original came out in 1958 as CL 1193 (mono) and CS 9428 (stereo). The PC prefix marks a later lower-priced Columbia reissue.

Why is Milestones seen as a turning point?
The title track is built on modal scales instead of fast chord progressions. Davis developed this approach a year later on Kind Of Blue with almost the same line-up.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
VG+ (Very Good Plus) means record and sleeve show light signs of use that hardly affect playback. One corner of the sleeve is slightly bent. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Miles Davis records?
Yes, for example Miles Davis – Kind Of Blue, Steamin', Walkin'. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
