Steely Dan was formed in 1971 by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Its music combines rock, funk, R&B, jazz and pop, and the lyrics are often ironic. From the end of 1974 they stopped performing live and worked as a studio band with changing session musicians. The band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
