Description

The Beatles – A Hard Day's Night appears here in its US version as the “Original Motion Picture Sound Track” – which differs considerably from the British album: alongside eight Beatles songs from the film it contains four instrumentals arranged by George Martin as music director, including “Ringo's Theme (This Boy)”. This version was originally released by United Artists in 1964; after Capitol acquired the UA catalogue in 1980 it was reissued on Capitol as SW-11921. On offer is the US Capitol edition with the purple label.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
No. The US soundtrack version came out in 1964 on United Artists. This is the Capitol edition SW-11921, released around 1980 after Capitol took over the UA catalogue – recognisable by the purple label with the dome logo and the rim text “Manufactured by Capitol Records, Inc., a subsidiary of Capitol Industries-EMI, Inc.”

Why are there instrumentals on the record?
The US edition is the film soundtrack: besides the Beatles songs from the film it contains orchestral versions by George Martin. Songs such as “Any Time At All”, “Things We Said Today” or “You Can't Do That” from the British LP are therefore missing.

What does Media NM- / Sleeve VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is almost like new, with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.
