Description
Carla Bley – Social Studies is an album by the Carla Bley Band on Bley’s own WATT label (cat. no. WATT/11), distributed through ECM. It was recorded between September and December 1980 at Grog Kill Studio in Willow, New York, produced by Bley herself with Tom Mark as engineer. The compositions are by Bley, and the band with Michael Mantler, Carlos Ward, Gary Valente and Steve Swallow uses tuba and euphonium for an unusual horn sound. This copy is the 1981 European original pressing with insert.

FAQ
Is this the original pressing?
Yes. This is the 1981 European first issue on WATT, pressed in Germany.
What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means the sleeve shows light wear, here a small sticker tear on the front. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.
What is WATT?
WATT is the label Carla Bley and Michael Mantler founded in 1973 to release their own music independently. From the late 1970s the records were distributed by ECM.
Do you have more Carla Bley records?
Yes, for example Carla Bley – Live!, The Carla Bley Band – I Hate To Sing and Escalator Over The Hill. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
