Easy Rider (Music From The Motion Picture) is the soundtrack album to Dennis Hopper's road movie Easy Rider, starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. The original was released in 1969 on Dunhill and is regarded as one of the first soundtrack albums built from existing rock songs rather than a specially composed score. It includes Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild" and "The Pusher", Jimi Hendrix's "If Six Was Nine" and songs by The Byrds and Roger McGuinn. "The Weight" appears here in a version by the band Smith, as The Band's film version was not cleared for the album. This copy is a 1976 German reissue on ABC Records.

Is this the original pressing?
No. The original was released in 1969 on Dunhill. This copy is a 1976 German reissue on ABC Records, which had absorbed Dunhill.

Why is "The Weight" not by The Band?
The film uses The Band's original recording. It was not included on the soundtrack album for rights reasons; the version by the group Smith appears instead.
