Fats Navarro – Prime Source is a double LP from the 1975 Blue Note Re-Issue Series collecting bebop trumpeter Fats Navarro's Blue Note recordings from 1947 to 1949, mostly with master and alternate takes. Sides A and B come from Tadd Dameron's sessions with pieces such as Our Delight, The Squirrel and Lady Bird, side C from the McGhee-Navarro Boptet with Howard McGhee as second trumpeter. On side D and the end of side C, Navarro plays with Bud Powell's Modernists and a young Sonny Rollins, including Bouncing With Bud and Dance Of The Infidels. Navarro died in 1950 aged only 26; his Blue Note recordings are considered the core of his work. This copy is the 1975 German edition on Blue Note (cat. no. BST 84 554 XCT) in a gatefold sleeve, in mono.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
The compilation was first released in 1975 in the Blue Note Re-Issue Series, in the US as BN-LA507-H2. This is the German edition from the same year, cat. no. BST 84 554 XCT. The recordings themselves date from 1947 to 1949.

What does "Alt. Master" mean?
Alt. Master means an alternate take: another recording of the same piece from the same session that was originally not released. It lets you compare how the musicians change their solos from take to take.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the record means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.
