Description

Gil Evans & The Monday Night Orchestra – Live At Sweet Basil Vol. 2 is a live double album recorded on 27 August 1984 at the New York jazz club Sweet Basil. From the early 1980s Gil Evans played there every Monday with his big band, which is where its name comes from. The programme includes his own pieces Jelly Roll and Gone, Thelonious Monk's Friday The 13th, Jimi Hendrix's Stone Free with a prelude by Evans, and Snowflake Bop by Anita Evans. The line-up includes George Adams, Lew Soloff, Hiram Bullock, Mark Egan, Adam Nussbaum and Evans' son Miles on trumpet. The album was produced by Horst Liepolt and Shigeyuki Kawashima for the Japanese label Electric Bird (King Records). This copy is the 1986 German original edition, manufactured by Bellaphon.
