Description
Grumpff – Unhip Trip is an album by the Giessen free jazz group Grumpff led by saxophonist and musicologist Ekkehard Jost, released in 1980 on View Records (cat. no. VS 0012). It was recorded on August 24 and 25, 1980 in Giessen, engineered by Amman Boutz. The quintet plays freely improvised, often humorous jazz, adding many unusual instruments to saxophones, piano, bass and drums, such as balafon, launeddas, zither, steel drums and toy horns. FAQ
What kind of music does Grumpff play?
Free, improvised jazz in the tradition of the European free jazz scene, with plenty of humour and a large arsenal of percussion and folk instruments. The record has little to do with jazz-funk or fusion.
Is this the original pressing?
Yes. This is the 1980 German first edition on the small label View Records with catalogue number VS 0012.
What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the record means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.
Do you have more Grumpff records?
Not at the moment. More free and experimental titles are in our Jazz and Experimental collections.
