Description

Janis Martin – Janis And Elvis is a 10″ compilation that alternates recordings by Janis Martin and Elvis Presley. Janis Martin (1940–2007) signed with RCA Victor in March 1956 at the age of 15 and was nicknamed “The Female Elvis” for her stage moves; her biggest hit was “Will You, Willyum” (1956). The Elvis tracks come from his 1954/55 Sun recordings. The original 10″ LP was released in South Africa around 1958 (RCA T31,077) and was withdrawn because it suggested that the two had recorded together. This copy is the 1985 French reissue from RCA’s “Elvis 10″ Collection” series (cat. no. 130 253), still in its original shrink wrap.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
No. The original was released in South Africa around 1958 on RCA (T31,077). This copy is the 1985 French reissue from the “Elvis 10″ Collection” series.

Why is the original record so rare?
The South African edition was withdrawn soon after release because its title and design implied that Janis Martin and Elvis sang together. In fact the record contains separate recordings by each artist.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means light signs of use that hardly affect playback or overall appearance. The sleeve is still in its original shrink wrap. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Elvis Presley records?
Yes, for example Elvis Presley – Good Rockin' Tonight (10″, FR 1983) or Elvis Presley – The Complete Sun Sessions. More titles are in our Beat / Rock ’n’ Roll collection.
