Description

Kenny Wheeler – Gnu High is the ECM debut of Canadian trumpeter and flugelhorn player Kenny Wheeler (cat. no. ECM 1069 ST), first released in 1976. It was recorded in June 1975 at Generation Sound Studios in New York with Keith Jarrett (piano), Dave Holland (bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums), produced by Manfred Eicher. Wheeler plays flugelhorn throughout; all three pieces are his, and side one is taken up by the 21-minute "Heyoke". It is one of the rare recordings featuring Jarrett as a sideman. This copy is a German reissue on ECM.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
No. The first edition was released in Germany on ECM in 1976. According to our listing this copy is a later German reissue with the same catalogue number ECM 1069 ST.

Why is Keith Jarrett's presence special?
From the mid-1970s Jarrett played almost only his own projects. "Gnu High" is one of the few recordings from that period where he appears in another musician's band.

What does Media "close to NM-" / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means close to new with at most minimal signs of use; "close to NM-" means the record is just below that. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Kenny Wheeler records?
Yes, for example Kenny Wheeler – Double, Double You. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
