Description

Rebel MC – Word, Sound And Power is the third album by London MC and producer Rebel MC (Michael West), released on 16 November 1992 on Big Life and Tribal Bass Records (cat. no. BLRLP 19). After his late-1980s hip house hits with Double Trouble, West turned here to Rasta themes, dub and fast breakbeats; the album is regarded as an early forerunner of jungle. Guests include Prince Lincoln Thompson, Dennis Brown, P.P. Arnold, Little T and Spikey T. This copy is a 1992 UK original pressing with the original inner sleeve.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. The album was released in the UK in November 1992 on Big Life as BLRLP 19, and that is the edition offered here.

Why is the album seen as a jungle forerunner?
On singles such as “Tribal Base” and “The Wickedest Sound” Rebel MC was already merging breakbeat hardcore with reggae, and he helped popularise the term “jungle”. On this album reggae vocals and toasting meet fast breakbeats and deep dub bass.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
VG+ (Very Good Plus) means both record and sleeve show light wear. Here the record is rather better than VG+. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Rebel MC records?
Yes, for example the 12" Rebel MC & Prince Lincoln Thompson – Humanity or Rebel MC, Double Trouble – Street Tuff. More titles are in our Reggae, Ska & Dub collection.
