Description

Third World – Third World is the debut album by Jamaican band Third World, released in 1976 on Island Records (cat. no. ILPS 9369). It was recorded at Strawberry Hill Studios in Jamaica and produced by Chris Blackwell, John Burns and the band. The group around Stephen “Cat” Coore and Michael “Ibo” Cooper blended roots reggae with funk, soul and rock; the album pairs original songs with versions of “Satta Massagana” (The Abyssinians) and “Slavery Days” (Burning Spear). The cover painting is by Tony Wright. This copy is a 1976 US original pressing with the original inner sleeve.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. The album came out in 1976 in both the UK and the US on Island Records as ILPS 9369. This is the US edition from that year.

What does “cut-out” mean?
In the US, overstock records were marked with a punched hole, notch or clipped corner on the sleeve and sold at a discount. This sleeve has such a mark; the record itself is not affected.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) means the record is close to new with at most minimal signs of play. VG+ (Very Good Plus) means the sleeve shows light wear, here plus the cut-out mark. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Third World records?
This is currently our only Third World record. From Bunny Rugs, who later became the band's singer, we have Bunny Rags / The Fighter – Let Love Touch Us Now. More titles are in our Reggae, Ska & Dub collection.
