Description

Yusef Lateef – Yusef Lateef is a German edition of the live album Lateef At Cranbrook. It was recorded on 8 April 1958 at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and first released in 1958 on Argo, produced by Dave Usher. Lateef plays tenor saxophone, flute, oboe and the argol, a traditional Middle Eastern wind instrument; he is joined by Frank Morelli (baritone saxophone), Terry Pollard (piano), William Austin (bass, rabab) and Frank Gant (drums, gong). As early as 1958 Lateef combined hard bop with sounds from the Middle East and Asia – most clearly in the fifteen-minute Morning. This copy is the 1969 German pressing on Chess (BJS 4015).
