Description

Charles Mingus – Town Hall Concert is a live album by bassist and composer Charles Mingus, recorded on April 4, 1964 at Town Hall in New York. The sextet with Eric Dolphy, Clifford Jordan, Johnny Coles, Jaki Byard and Dannie Richmond plays just two long Mingus pieces: "So Long Eric" and "Praying With Eric", which continues across the whole of side two. A few days later the group left for its European tour; Dolphy died that June. The recording first came out on Mingus' own Jazz Workshop label. This copy is a 1971 German reissue on Bellaphon (cat. no. BLPS 19051).
