Description

Depeche Mode – Speak & Spell is Depeche Mode's debut album, released by Mute in October 1981 (Stumm 5). Produced by Daniel Miller and the band at Blackwing Studios in London, it is the only album with Vince Clarke, who wrote nine of the eleven songs and left shortly afterwards; Martin L. Gore contributed Tora! Tora! Tora! and Big Muff. The singles New Life and Just Can't Get Enough made the band known in the UK. In Germany the LP was issued via Intercord as INT 146.801. This copy is that German original pressing from 1981.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes, this is the 1981 German first edition on Mute/Intercord with catalogue number INT 146.801.

Is Dreaming Of Me on this record?
No. Dreaming Of Me was the band's first single but is not on the European LP; it does appear on the US edition of Speak & Spell. The European version closes with Just Can't Get Enough.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
Record and sleeve: VG+ (Very Good Plus) means light signs of use that barely affect the overall impression. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Depeche Mode records?
Yes, for example Just Can't Get Enough 12" on white vinyl, another copy of Speak & Spell (DE 1981) and the follow-up A Broken Frame (DE 1982). More in our Synth-pop collection.
