Description

Ella Fitzgerald & Duke Ellington – The Stockholm Concert, 1966 is a live album recorded on February 7, 1966 at the Konserthuset in Stockholm during their joint European tour. Producer Norman Granz held the tape back for almost two decades; it was first released in 1984 on Pablo Live (cat. no. 2308-242). The programme mixes Ellington pieces such as "Satin Doll", "Duke's Place" and "Cotton Tail" with Bacharach's "Wives And Lovers" and Jobim's "Só Danço Samba". On several songs Ella is backed by her own trio led by pianist Jimmy Jones. This copy is the 1984 German edition.

FAQ

Is this an original pressing?
Yes. The concert was recorded in 1966 but first released by Pablo in 1984. This German pressing (2308-242) dates from the year of release.

Why does Ellington not play on every track?
On A3 through B3 Ella is accompanied by her trio with Jimmy Jones on piano; Ellington and his rhythm section sit out, while the orchestra plays on the remaining tracks.

What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
VG+ (Very Good Plus) means for both record and sleeve: light signs of use that barely affect playback or appearance. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Are there more records by Ella Fitzgerald or Duke Ellington?
Yes, for example Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong – Ella & Louis, Ella Fitzgerald – Ella In Hollywood or Duke Ellington's New Orleans Suite. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
