Description
John Coltrane – A Love Supreme is the four-part suite John Coltrane recorded with his classic quartet in a single session on December 9, 1964 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs. Produced by Bob Thiele and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder, it was released on Impulse! (A-77) in early 1965. Coltrane conceived it as a spiritual statement; on "Acknowledgement" he chants the title as a mantra, and "Psalm" follows his poem printed in the liner notes line by line. In 2015 the album was added to the National Recording Registry. This copy is a 1980 Japanese edition (MCA/Impulse!, VIM-4610) in a gatefold sleeve with insert.

FAQ
Is this the original pressing?
No. The original was released in the US on Impulse! (A-77) in 1965. This copy is a 1980 Japanese edition made under licence from MCA, with gatefold sleeve and insert; the OBI is missing.
What is an OBI?
The OBI is the paper strip wrapped around the sleeve of Japanese pressings, usually printed with title and price in Japanese. This copy comes without it, but with the insert.
What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the record means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.
Do you have more John Coltrane records?
Yes, for example The John Coltrane Quartet – Africa / Brass, John Coltrane – My Favorite Things, John Coltrane – Ascension (Edition II). More titles are in our Jazz collection.
