Description

Miles Davis – Amandla is the third and last album of Miles Davis's collaboration with bassist and producer Marcus Miller on Warner Bros. (cat. no. 925 873-1), released in 1989. It was recorded in several studios in New York and Los Angeles, including Clinton Recording and Right Track, produced by Marcus Miller and Tommy LiPuma; “Cobra” was produced by George Duke. Unlike Tutu, it features members of Davis's touring band, among them saxophonist Kenny Garrett, plus guests such as Joe Sample, Omar Hakim and Al Foster. The title is the Zulu and Xhosa word for “power”; Davis designed the cover art together with Jo Gelbard. This copy is the 1989 European original pressing.

Marcus Miller's piece is dedicated to bassist Jaco Pastorius, who died in 1987. Davis plays it with just Miller and drummer Al Foster.
