Description
Miles Davis – Miles Davis Plays Jazz Classics is a Prestige compilation (cat. no. 7373), first released in 1965. All eight tracks come from the Miles Davis Quintet's two sessions of May 11 and October 26, 1956 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, the same dates that produced the albums Cookin', Relaxin', Workin' and Steamin'. It features the "first great quintet" with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones playing bebop and hard bop standards by Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins. This copy is a 1972 US reissue (remastered).
