Description
John Coltrane – Lush Life is a John Coltrane album on Prestige (cat. no. 7188), first released in January 1961, when Coltrane was already signed elsewhere. It collects material from three sessions on May 31, 1957, August 16, 1957 and January 10, 1958 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack. Side A presents Coltrane in a piano-less trio with Earl May and Art Taylor; side B holds his version of Billy Strayhorn's ballad "Lush Life" with Donald Byrd and Red Garland. This copy is a 1982 French reissue.

FAQ
Is this the original pressing?
No. The original edition came out in the US in 1961. This copy is a 1982 French reissue with the same cat. no. 7188.
What does Media VG+ / Cover VG+ mean?
The record is graded VG+ (Very Good Plus): light signs of use that barely affect playback. The sleeve is graded VG+ (Very Good Plus): light, purely cosmetic wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.
Why is there no pianist on side A?
The three side A tracks were recorded as a trio with just bass and drums. For Coltrane at the time this was an unusual line-up that leaves him plenty of room for long lines.
Do you have more John Coltrane records?
Yes, for example John Coltrane With The Red Garland Trio – Traneing In, John Coltrane – A Love Supreme and John Coltrane – The Believer. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
