Description

Pat Metheny – 80/81 is a double album by guitarist Pat Metheny with Charlie Haden (bass), Jack DeJohnette (drums) and tenor saxophonists Dewey Redman and Michael Brecker on ECM (cat. no. ECM 1180/81). It was recorded on May 26–29, 1980 at Talent Studio in Oslo, produced by Manfred Eicher with engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug, and released in 1980. Metheny steps away from his group and plays freer, closer to the jazz around Ornette Coleman, whose "Turnaround" is included. This copy is the 1980 German original pressing with original inner sleeves.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. It is the 1980 German ECM first pressing with catalogue number ECM 1180/81, with original inner sleeves.

How does 80/81 differ from the Pat Metheny Group albums?
Instead of his group with Lyle Mays, Metheny plays here with jazz musicians from the circles of Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarrett. The music is more open and improvised, with two tenor saxophones.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the records means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear, here some shelf wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Pat Metheny records?
Yes, for example Pat Metheny Group – Offramp, Pat Metheny Group – Pat Metheny Group and Pat Metheny – Watercolors. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
