Description

Cannonball Adderley – Somethin' Else is alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley's only album for Blue Note, recorded on March 9, 1958 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack and produced by Alfred Lion; the original (BLP 1595) was released in August 1958. Miles Davis appears as a sideman, wrote the title track and, according to the liner notes, chose most of the material; the band is completed by Hank Jones, Sam Jones and Art Blakey. The long version of "Autumn Leaves" is one of the best-known recordings of the standard. This copy is a 1982 French reissue (cat. no. BST 81595).

FAQ

What is Miles Davis's role?
Davis is officially a sideman but shapes the album strongly: he plays on four of the five tracks, often takes the first solo and wrote the title track. At the end of "One For Daddy-O" you can hear him ask Alfred Lion: "Is that what you wanted, Alfred?"

Is this the original pressing?
No. The original was released in the US in 1958. This copy is a 1982 French reissue.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the record means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Cannonball Adderley or Miles Davis records?
Yes, for example Cannonball Adderley With Sergio Mendes – Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars, The Miles Davis Quintet – Steamin' or Miles Davis – Walkin'. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
